Steven Markovitz has 30 years experience in producing and distributing feature films and documentaries through his production company, Big World Cinema. He has worked with over 150 directors from more than 30 African countries on films that have screened at festivals including Cannes, Sundance, Berlin, Toronto and Venice and an Oscar nomination. His films have sold to platforms and broadcasters worldwide and many have been theatrically released in numerous territories including Brazil, USA, UK, Japan, Russia, France and Germany. He is a co-founder the non-profit organisations Electric South, Documentary Africa and the Encounters Documentary Festival. Steven was knighted for his contribution to African cinema by the Government of Burkina Faso and the Republic of France. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences.
