2017 NAIROBI VR HACKATHON

2017 NAIROBI VR HACKATHON

Electric South partnered with Kenya’s Nuba Reports to facilitate a 5-day residency VR workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. Six creative teams from across East Africa (Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Somalia) were invited to learn practical production skills through making a short 360 film.

As they went on to pursue VR projects in their respective countries of residence, the attendees then had continued mentorship from international experts: Ben Kreimer, an independent journalism technologist; Lakshmi Sarah, an educator and journalist based in the Bay Area; and Conan Roberts, head of production at VR City in the UK.

Thanks to the British Council in Kenya, one participant will have financial support to attend the 2018 Alternate Realities program at the Sheffield Doc/Fest in the UK.
