The second VR lab workshop took place in Cape Town, South Africa in July 2017, and brought together nine creative participants from across Africa (Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa). The residential VR lab focus was 360 filmmaking, Unity production, and immersive computing and development of VR project ideas.
The Lab was led by the following creative advisors: Jessica Brillhart (principal filmmaker for VR at Google), Oscar Raby (VRTOV), Darren Emerson (East City Films), Ainsley Sutherland (media technologist and researcher, 2016 fellow at the BuzzFeed Open Lab), Stephen Abbott (editor), Simon Ratcliffe (audio engineer, Sound & Motion Studios) and Carl Roberts (Sound & Motion Studios), as well as New Dimensions alumni Jim Chuchu (visual artist, The Nest), and Selly Raby Kane (fashion designer).
